Focal 1000 ICW6 In-Wall / In-Ceiling Speaker

The Focal 1000 ICW6 is what happens when you want the room to look clean without compromising on the audio system.

Made in France, the 1000 ICW6 brings two of Focal's most important high-end technologies into an architectural loudspeaker: a 6.5-inch W-cone mid/bass driver and pure Beryllium inverted-dome tweeter.

It can be installed in either the wall or ceiling and used for serious two-channel music, home theater, surround channels, or Dolby Atmos.

This isn't background-audio territory. The 1000 Series is designed for installations where architectural speakers are being used because they're the right solution for the room—not because sound quality is secondary.

6.5-Inch Focal W-Cone Driver

The 1000 ICW6 uses a 6.5-inch W-cone mid/bass driver.

Focal's W cone is a composite sandwich construction consisting of a structural foam core between two sheets of glass.

This allows Focal to control three critical characteristics of the driver: lightness, rigidity, and damping.

The result is excellent transient response, low distortion, and the kind of midrange definition we want when designing a high-performance architectural system.

It's a significant step beyond what you typically find in conventional in-ceiling speakers.

Pure Beryllium Tweeter

The biggest distinction between the 1000 ICW6 and Focal's more accessible architectural speakers is the pure Beryllium inverted-dome tweeter.

Beryllium combines exceptional rigidity with extremely low mass, allowing the tweeter to respond incredibly quickly and reproduce fine high-frequency information with precision.

Focal's Beryllium tweeter technology is one of the defining features of the company's higher-end loudspeakers, and bringing it into an architectural speaker allows us to build a hidden system without giving up that level of resolution.

The 1000 ICW6 extends all the way to 44kHz.

Adjustable Midrange and Tweeter Assembly

Architectural speakers present a unique problem: sometimes the ideal acoustic location isn't the ideal architectural location.

Focal addresses this with a swiveling mid/high-frequency section.

After the speaker is installed, we can direct the midrange and high-frequency energy toward the primary listening area.

The speaker can also be configured according to whether it's being used as a left, center, or right channel, giving us additional flexibility when designing a completely architectural home theater.

Reference-Level Dolby Atmos

The 1000 ICW6 is an excellent choice for Dolby Atmos height channels when the rest of the theater is built around serious Focal loudspeakers.

Using a Beryllium-equipped architectural speaker overhead allows us to maintain a much higher level of performance throughout the room.

That becomes particularly important when we're designing systems around Focal's higher-end traditional speakers.

The height channels shouldn't suddenly sound like generic ceiling speakers just because they're hidden.

Completely Hidden Home Theater

The 1000 ICW6 can also be installed in the walls, opening the door to a theater where virtually every speaker disappears.

Depending on the room and performance requirements, we can use Focal architectural speakers for the front channels, surrounds, and overhead channels while integrating dedicated subwoofers for the lowest frequencies.

The result can be a legitimate high-performance theater without floorstanding speakers, center speakers, or surround speakers occupying the room.

For modern interiors and purpose-built private cinemas, that's a major advantage.

High-End Architectural Stereo

The 1000 ICW6 isn't limited to home theater.

A properly positioned pair can create a serious architectural two-channel music system in a living room, office, bedroom, kitchen, or other space where traditional loudspeakers aren't appropriate.

Add high-quality electronics and properly integrated bass and you can build a system that sounds like HiFi while almost completely disappearing into the architecture.

Easy Quick Install

Focal's EQI — Easy Quick Install — system allows the 1000 ICW6 to be secured into its mounting frame without conventional tools.

Focal includes both round and square magnetic grilles, and both can be painted to match the surrounding wall or ceiling.

Once installed and painted, the visual impact can be extremely minimal.

That's exactly what we want from architectural audio.

Easy Upgrade from Focal 300 Series

Focal intentionally designed the 1000 ICW6 with the same dimensions as the equivalent 300 Series speaker.

That's important.

If you already have a compatible Focal 300 Series installation, moving into the 1000 Series can be significantly easier because we don't necessarily have to redesign the ceiling or enlarge the existing opening.

It gives us an upgrade path from Flax-based architectural audio into Focal's W-cone and Beryllium technology.

Focal + Naim Custom Integration

As a Focal Powered by Naim store, The Grid can design the electronics around the speakers instead of treating architectural audio as an afterthought.

Focal recommends its Naim CI Series electronics with the 1000 ICW6, giving us dedicated streaming and multi-channel amplification solutions designed specifically for custom installation.

For larger systems, we can integrate the Focal and Naim components into the home's network and Control4 system, creating centralized audio that can be controlled throughout the house without racks of electronics in every room.
