The ESOTERIC K-03XD SE combines the brand’s renowned VRDS-ATLAS SACD transport with its proprietary Master Sound Discrete DAC, bringing advanced digital engineering, precision mechanics, and high-current analog output design into one reference-grade player.

The SE version further improves the platform with a newly developed discrete clock, upgraded analog components, and refined power-supply engineering for greater presence, dynamics, resolution, and musical texture.

VRDS-ATLAS ATLAS 03 Transport

At the heart of the K-03XD SE is ESOTERIC’s VRDS-ATLAS ATLAS 03 transport mechanism.

The system clamps the disc to a same-diameter platter to suppress rotational vibration and help correct disc warpage, improving optical pickup accuracy and reducing read errors. The ATLAS 03 uses an 18 mm SS400 steel bridge, a duralumin platter, and a single-point spindle bearing system for exceptional rigidity, smooth rotation, and low mechanical noise.

Master Sound Discrete DAC

The K-03XD SE uses ESOTERIC’s in-house Master Sound Discrete DAC, derived from technologies first developed for the Grandioso D1X.

Its architecture incorporates 32 discrete elements per channel, with key components kept isolated to maintain precision and preserve musical energy.

Advanced FPGA-based Delta-Sigma processing supports:

• 64-bit / 512Fs processing
• Up to 22.5 MHz DSD
• Up to 768 kHz PCM

Upgraded SE Analog Circuitry

For the SE model, ESOTERIC upgraded critical DAC-board components including the amplification elements, analog filter resistors, and capacitors.

These premium parts are selected to improve dynamics, immediacy, tonal richness, and the organic character of the reproduced music.

Master Sound Discrete Clock

The K-03XD SE incorporates ESOTERIC’s Master Sound Discrete Clock for Digital Player, based on concepts developed for the flagship Grandioso G1X master clock generator.

It can also synchronize with a compatible ESOTERIC external clock using a highly accurate 10 MHz reference signal.

High-Current Analog Output

ESOTERIC’s HCLD High Current Line Driver delivers an extremely fast 2,000 V/μs slew rate, helping the analog output stage respond quickly and preserve musical dynamics.

The K-03XD SE also supports ES-Link Analog, ESOTERIC’s proprietary current-transmission system, alongside conventional XLR and RCA outputs.

Dual-Transformer Power Supply

The K-03XD SE uses two large toroidal power transformers, providing independent power supplies for the digital and analog sections.

Its low-feedback discrete regulator architecture is supported by 26 EDLC super capacitors with a combined capacitance of 0.65 F (650,000 μF), helping improve low-frequency resolution and overall power stability.

Standalone DAC Capability

In addition to SACD and CD playback, the K-03XD SE can be used as a high-performance standalone DAC.

Digital inputs include coaxial, optical, and USB Type-B, with support for:

Reference Chassis Construction

The VRDS-ATLAS mechanism is mounted to a 5 mm-thick steel base plate, while the internal chassis uses a double-deck structure to separate audio circuitry from power supplies and transformers.

ESOTERIC’s proprietary Pinpoint Feet and a semi-floating top panel further reduce vibration and mechanical stress.
