Overview
EMM Labs DS-EQ1 V2 Optical Equalizer
The EMM Labs DS-EQ1 V2 is a reference optical equalizer designed exclusively for DS Audio optical cartridges. Developed by Ed Meitner in collaboration with DS Audio, the DS-EQ1 applies EMM Labs' expertise in ultra-low-noise analog circuitry, power supply design and precision signal handling to high-end vinyl playback.
Unlike a conventional moving-magnet or moving-coil phono stage, the DS-EQ1 provides the specialized equalization and electrical interface required by DS Audio's optical cartridge technology. Its proprietary circuitry is designed entirely in-house by EMM Labs, with optimized short signal paths and discrete Class A amplification.
Reference Optical Cartridge Playback
The DS-EQ1 V2 uses a custom aerospace-grade ceramic circuit board for its equalization and amplification stages, engineered to preserve low-level musical information while minimizing noise and distortion.
A front-panel control allows selection between a standard 50Hz RIAA response or an additional second-order 15Hz high-pass filter. EMM Labs' proprietary high-isolation resonant-mode power supply further isolates the sensitive analog circuitry from electrical noise.
