Burmester BC350 Signature Line Loudspeakers

Complimentary White Glove Delivery • Travel Reimbursement*

The Burmester BC350 Loudspeakers represent the summit of Burmester's Signature Line, a monumental 3-way bass-reflex loudspeaker engineered without conventional constraints on scale, cabinet construction, driver capability or system integration. Standing more than six feet tall and weighing approximately 420 kg, or 926 lb, per speaker, the BC350 is built around twin 320 mm woofers, two 220 mm midrange drivers and two Air Motion Transformer tweeters within an extensively reinforced aluminum-framed enclosure.

What makes the BC350 especially unusual is its ability to operate as two distinctly configured loudspeakers. Pure Mode prioritizes direct, highly focused reproduction, while Live Mode activates additional drivers and an independently adjustable ambience tweeter to increase dynamic capability, scale and spatial energy.

These are not simple EQ presets. Burmester uses separate discrete crossover networks for the two operating modes, allowing the electrical and acoustic behavior of the BC350 to change according to the listening experience desired.

Two Loudspeakers in One: Pure Mode and Live Mode

The BC350 provides two fundamentally different operating configurations.

In Pure Mode, the loudspeaker is configured for maximum focus and precision. The front-firing AMT and one midrange driver operate with the two large woofers, creating a direct radiation pattern intended for critical two-channel listening.

In Live Mode, the second midrange driver is activated and the additional upward-firing AMT joins the system. Both midrange drivers operate in parallel while the ambience tweeter adds adjustable indirect high-frequency energy to the room.

The result is greater acoustic output and a broader spatial presentation for listening situations where scale, dynamics and involvement take priority.

Burmester does not create these modes through digital processing. Each uses its own discrete crossover configuration, allowing the loudspeaker itself to change its acoustic behavior.

Separate Crossovers for Pure and Live Modes

Developing two distinct operating modes required significantly more than a conventional switchable crossover adjustment.

Burmester designed separate crossover networks for Pure and Live Modes, allowing each configuration to be optimized independently.

Development of the crossover systems took place using the facilities of the Institute of Fluid Mechanics and Technical Acoustics at the Technical University of Berlin, including one of the world's largest anechoic chambers.

The switching system itself is engineered for extremely low contact resistance and high current capability, preserving the damping relationship between amplifier and loudspeaker even at the BC350's extraordinary operating levels.

Twin 320 mm Woofers

Low-frequency reproduction is handled by two 320 mm, approximately 12.6-inch, woofers.

Each woofer operates with its own dedicated bass-reflex system, giving the BC350 enormous combined diaphragm area and the ability to move substantial volumes of air without requiring extreme excursion from a single driver.

In Pure Mode, the system extends to a published 28 Hz at ±3 dB.

The bass system is engineered not merely for extension, but for the dynamic capability required to reproduce large-scale music at realistic levels while maintaining control.

Handcrafted KPM Porcelain Bass-Reflex Tubes

One of the most extraordinary construction details in the BC350 is hidden inside the loudspeaker.

Its bass-reflex tubes are manufactured from double-walled porcelain by Berlin's Königliche Porzellan-Manufaktur, or KPM.

The collaboration was undertaken to create an exceptionally rigid, low-loss reflex structure with carefully controlled mechanical characteristics.

Each large woofer operates with its own porcelain bass-reflex tube, making the port itself an engineered acoustic component rather than simply an opening cut into the enclosure.

Dual 220 mm Midrange Drivers

The BC350 incorporates two 220 mm midrange drivers using lightweight glass-fiber papyrus diaphragms.

Their operation changes depending on the selected listening mode.

Pure Mode employs one midrange driver. In Live Mode, both midrange drivers operate in parallel.

Using both drivers increases the effective radiating area while reducing the individual excursion required from each diaphragm at a given acoustic output.

This contributes to the BC350's substantially greater power handling in Live Mode, where nominal capacity rises from 550 watts to 900 watts.

Dual Air Motion Transformer Tweeters

High frequencies are handled by two specialized Air Motion Transformer tweeters.

The primary AMT directs high-frequency energy toward the listening position and operates as the BC350's principal high-frequency transducer.

The second AMT is positioned to radiate upward and is activated in Live Mode.

Instead of simply increasing treble level, this additional tweeter introduces controlled indirect high-frequency energy into the listening room, altering the relationship between direct and reflected sound.

The result is an adjustable sense of scale and spaciousness that can be tailored to the room and listener.

Adjustable Ambience Tweeter

The output of the upward-firing AMT is independently adjustable.

A control on the BC350 allows the amount of indirect high-frequency energy to be varied according to room acoustics and listening preference.

This makes the ambience system fundamentally different from a conventional treble control. Rather than simply altering the frequency response of the forward-facing loudspeaker, it changes how high-frequency information interacts with the listening environment.

That gives the BC350 an additional acoustic tuning tool after the loudspeaker has been positioned in the room.

Massive Aluminum-Framed Cabinet

Each BC350 is built around an extensively reinforced enclosure surrounded by a massively machined aluminum frame.

The structure was developed using Finite Element Method analysis to identify and control mechanical resonances. Burmester also conducted material and vibration studies at the Technical University of Berlin using acceleration sensors and sophisticated laser measurement techniques.

Heavy internal cross-bracing further reinforces the enclosure.

The objective is to provide an extremely stable mechanical foundation for six large drivers while preventing the enormous forces generated inside the cabinet from turning its panels into unwanted secondary radiators.

Individually Isolated Drivers and Crossovers

The BC350's internal architecture goes considerably beyond conventional cabinet bracing.

Each driver and crossover section is provided with its own internal enclosure to minimize mechanical and acoustic interaction between components.

This separation prevents the enormous pressure generated by the twin woofers from directly influencing the more delicate midrange, high-frequency and crossover sections.

The result is effectively a collection of specialized acoustic and electrical chambers contained inside one enormous structural enclosure.

Adjustable Loudspeaker Alignment

At roughly 926 pounds per speaker, repositioning a BC350 is not something that should be required every time the listening position changes.

Burmester therefore allows the loudspeaker body itself to swivel by up to 15 degrees in either direction while the base remains stationary.

This allows toe-in and listening-axis alignment to be optimized without physically rotating the entire loudspeaker across the floor.

Four height-adjustable feet also allow the BC350 to be leveled precisely after installation.

Single-Wire or Bi-Amp Operation

The BC350's connection architecture supports conventional single-amplifier operation as well as bi-amplification.

Removing the appropriate terminal bridges separates the bass section from the midrange and high-frequency section, allowing each to be driven independently.

This opens the door to exceptionally ambitious amplification systems, including multiple Burmester stereo amplifiers or dedicated monoblock configurations.

Given the BC350's 3-ohm impedance in Pure Mode and extraordinary 900-watt nominal capability in Live Mode, amplification should be treated as an integral part of the loudspeaker system rather than selected independently.

Designed for Burmester's Most Powerful Amplification

In Pure Mode, the BC350 presents a nominal 3-ohm impedance, 90 dB sensitivity and 550-watt nominal power capacity.

In Live Mode, nominal impedance becomes 4 ohms, sensitivity remains 90 dB and power handling increases dramatically to 900 watts.

These specifications place substantial demands on amplification, particularly when the BC350 is operated at the dynamic levels for which it was designed.

The loudspeaker is therefore a natural partner for Burmester's highest-current amplification, including the 259, 909 MK5 and flagship 159 monoblocks.
