Bryston BP-19 Reference Analog Preamplifier

The Bryston BP-19 is for the listener who wants a serious analog preamplifier without paying for digital features they don't need.

Developed using many of the circuit innovations created for Bryston's award-winning BR-20, the BP-19 strips the concept back to its analog core: a fully balanced signal path, discrete Class A circuitry, oversized toroidal power supply and exceptionally low noise and distortion.

The result is a preamplifier designed to disappear from the signal path and let the source, amplifier and loudspeakers do their jobs.

For vinyl systems, the BP-19 can also be configured with Bryston's acclaimed BP-2 Moving Magnet phono stage, with a Moving Coil transformer option available for low-output MC cartridges.

Fully Balanced Analog Design

The BP-19 uses a fully balanced signal path from input to output.

Bryston uses tightly matched components and a compact circuit architecture to reduce noise while improving common-mode rejection and channel performance.

At the heart of the design is Bryston's optimized discrete operational amplifier, developed during the BR-20 program.

Measured THD+N is less than 0.0006% from 20Hz to 20kHz, while intermodulation distortion is rated at no more than 0.0003%.

Those are exceptionally low figures for an analog preamplifier.

Six Analog Inputs

The BP-19 provides plenty of connectivity for a serious analog system:

• 2 pairs balanced XLR inputs
• 4 pairs RCA inputs

That gives you six analog source inputs for components such as a DAC, streamer, CD player, tuner, tape source or turntable when equipped with the optional phono stage.

Optional BP-2 Moving Magnet Phono Stage

For the first time, Bryston offers its BP-2 Moving Magnet phono circuit as an internal option in the BP-19.

The phono module converts RCA Input 1 into a dedicated MM phono input, allowing a compatible turntable and cartridge to connect directly to the BP-19.

The BP-2 circuit is designed around extremely low noise, low distortion and substantial overload headroom—exactly what you want from a phono stage handling the very small signal coming from a cartridge.

Moving Coil Option

Low-output Moving Coil cartridges can also be accommodated.

Bryston offers a specially designed Moving Coil transformer module with selectable 20dB or 30dB gain.

This gives serious vinyl listeners another path for building the BP-19 around their preferred cartridge rather than automatically requiring an entirely separate phono preamplifier.

Variable & Fixed Outputs

The BP-19 provides both balanced and single-ended outputs:

• 1 pair variable balanced XLR outputs
• 1 pair fixed balanced XLR outputs
• 1 pair variable RCA outputs
• 1 pair fixed RCA outputs

The variable outputs feed your power amplifier in a conventional two-channel system, while the fixed outputs provide additional flexibility for recording or other system configurations.

Remote & System Control

The BP-19 includes an infrared remote, with direct access to all six analog inputs.

For professionally integrated systems, Bryston also provides:

Faceplate Options

The BP-19 is available in 17-inch or 19-inch widths, with standard silver or black faceplates.

A 19-inch professional rackmount version is also available.

Bryston goes a step further by offering custom faceplate colors, allowing the BP-19 to be matched to the rest of a Bryston system or customized for a particular listening room or installation.

BP-19 or BR-20?

The choice between these two Bryston preamplifiers is actually pretty straightforward.

The BR-20 is the system hub. It combines an analog preamplifier with a DAC, network streamer, headphone amplifier and extensive digital connectivity.

The BP-19 is the purist analog option.

If you already have the DAC or streamer you want—or you're building a system primarily around analog sources—the BP-19 lets you concentrate on the preamplifier itself without adding digital circuitry you may never use.

Pair it with a Bryston 3B³, 4B³, 14B³ or Bryston monoblocks, and you have the foundation for an exceptionally clean Bryston two-channel system.
