Bowers & Wilkins HTM81 D5 Center Channel Speaker

Flagship three-way center channel loudspeaker featuring Diamond Dome Tweeter-on-Top technology, a decoupled Continuum Cone midrange, dual 8-inch Aerofoil bass drivers, and Matrix cabinet engineering.

The Bowers & Wilkins HTM81 D5 brings the performance of the 800 Series Diamond D5 to the most critical channel in a reference home theater. Engineered for exceptional dialogue clarity, powerful dynamics, and precise vocal reproduction, it combines a 1-inch Diamond Dome tweeter, dedicated 6-inch Continuum Cone FST midrange driver, and two 8-inch Aerofoil bass drivers.

Designed to complement the Bowers & Wilkins 801 D5 and 802 D5 floorstanding speakers, the HTM81 D5 provides the tonal consistency, output capability, and acoustic precision required for immersive multichannel systems.

With 90dB sensitivity, a 28Hz–28kHz frequency response, and recommended amplification of 50–500 watts, the HTM81 D5 delivers exceptional performance for cinematic dialogue, musical soundtracks, and demanding center-channel effects.

Diamond Dome Tweeter-on-Top

The HTM81 D5 features Bowers & Wilkins' renowned 1-inch Diamond Dome tweeter, mounted in a mechanically isolated Solid Body Tweeter-on-Top enclosure.

Diamond's exceptional stiffness pushes the dome's breakup frequency far beyond the audible spectrum, supporting precise high-frequency reproduction with minimal unwanted resonance.

The separate tweeter housing reduces mechanical interference from the main cabinet, allowing delicate soundtrack details and vocal overtones to emerge with clarity.

Decoupled Continuum Cone FST Midrange

A dedicated 6-inch Continuum Cone FST midrange driver reproduces the vocal frequencies essential to dialogue intelligibility.

Its advanced diaphragm construction is engineered to minimize abrupt cone breakup, preserving natural timbre and reducing coloration.

The driver incorporates Biomimetic Suspension and an Anti-Resonance Plug to reduce unwanted mechanical noise and improve midrange linearity.

Mechanical decoupling further isolates the driver from cabinet vibration, helping maintain clarity during demanding cinematic passages.

Dual 8-Inch Aerofoil Bass Drivers

Two 8-inch Aerofoil Profile bass drivers provide the substantial low-frequency output required for a flagship center channel.

The Aerofoil diaphragm uses a variable-thickness profile to achieve high stiffness with controlled mass, allowing the woofers to reproduce powerful effects and lower vocal fundamentals with precision.

Combined with the cabinet's Flowport bass-reflex system, the HTM81 D5 delivers bass extension to 20Hz (-6dB), providing exceptional low-frequency capability for a center channel speaker.

Advanced Matrix Cabinet Construction

The HTM81 D5 uses Bowers & Wilkins' Matrix internal bracing system to create a rigid, resonance-controlled enclosure.

Strategically positioned internal panels reinforce the cabinet and reduce unwanted vibration, allowing the drivers to operate against a stable acoustic structure.

This construction helps preserve clarity during high-output movie scenes and complex multichannel music playback.

Flowport Bass-Reflex Engineering

Bowers & Wilkins' Flowport technology uses a specially textured port surface to reduce turbulence as air moves through the enclosure.

This design supports clean, controlled bass reproduction while minimizing unwanted port noise.

The three-way vented-box architecture allows the HTM81 D5 to deliver substantial low-frequency output without compromising midrange articulation.

Reference Home Theater Performance

The HTM81 D5 is engineered to reproduce dialogue, sound effects, and musical information with consistent tonal balance across a high-performance theater system.

Its 90dB sensitivity and 8-ohm nominal impedance support integration with premium multichannel amplification, while its 3-ohm minimum impedance makes amplifier current capability an important consideration.

The speaker is particularly well suited to systems using the 801 D5 or 802 D5 as the front left and right channels.

Premium Finishes and Dedicated Stand

The Bowers & Wilkins HTM81 D5 is available in three finishes:

  • Stealth Black

  • Warm White

  • Dark Walnut

A matching FS-HTM D5 center speaker stand is available separately in Black or Titanium.

The dedicated stand provides a purpose-designed mounting solution for positioning the HTM81 D5 in a reference listening environment.
