Bowers & Wilkins 802 D5 Floorstanding Speakers

Reference three-way floorstanding loudspeakers featuring Diamond Dome Tweeter-on-Top technology, a decoupled Turbine Head, dual 8-inch Aerofoil bass drivers, and advanced Matrix cabinet construction.

The Bowers & Wilkins 802 D5 delivers flagship 800 Series Diamond engineering in a sophisticated reference floorstanding loudspeaker. Designed for exceptional resolution, effortless dynamics, and precise spatial reproduction, it combines a 1-inch Diamond Dome tweeter, dedicated 6-inch Continuum Cone FST midrange driver, and two powerful 8-inch Aerofoil bass drivers.

The D5 generation introduces enhanced Matrix cabinet bracing, aluminum Space Frame reinforcement, refined driver motor systems, and upgraded mechanical isolation. Its distinctive reverse-wrap cabinet separates the critical midrange and high-frequency drivers from the bass enclosure, reducing unwanted interaction and preserving musical detail.

With 90dB sensitivity, 17Hz–28kHz frequency response, and recommended amplification of 50–500 watts, the 802 D5 is engineered for demanding two-channel systems and reference home theaters.

Diamond Dome Tweeter-on-Top

The 802 D5 features Bowers & Wilkins' renowned 1-inch Diamond Dome tweeter, housed in a mechanically isolated Solid Body Tweeter-on-Top assembly.

Diamond's exceptional stiffness pushes the dome's breakup frequency to approximately 70kHz, well beyond the audible spectrum. This allows exceptionally precise high-frequency reproduction with minimal unwanted resonance.

The separate tweeter enclosure also reduces mechanical interference from the main cabinet, supporting stable stereo imaging, finely resolved detail, and an expansive soundstage.

Decoupled Turbine Head Midrange

The dedicated 6-inch Continuum Cone FST midrange driver operates within Bowers & Wilkins' distinctive Turbine Head enclosure.

This acoustically optimized housing isolates the midrange from the pressure and vibration generated by the bass drivers. Its decoupled construction helps minimize mechanical coloration and allows the driver to reproduce vocals and instruments with exceptional transparency.

The Turbine Head is a defining element of the 800 Series Diamond architecture, providing both acoustic and mechanical separation for the frequencies most critical to natural musical reproduction.

Continuum Cone FST with Biomimetic Suspension

The 802 D5 uses a 6-inch Continuum Cone FST midrange driver with Biomimetic Suspension and an Anti-Resonance Plug.

The Continuum Cone is engineered to control diaphragm breakup and reduce abrupt resonances. Biomimetic Suspension replaces conventional fabric spider construction with a carefully engineered suspension system that reduces unwanted air pressure and mechanical noise behind the cone.

These technologies contribute to improved midrange linearity, low distortion, and greater clarity across vocals, strings, piano, and complex instrumental passages.

Dual 8-Inch Aerofoil Bass Drivers

Two 8-inch Aerofoil Profile bass drivers deliver substantial low-frequency extension and dynamic authority.

The Aerofoil diaphragm uses a variable-thickness profile to achieve high stiffness without unnecessary mass. Upgraded motor systems provide greater control over cone movement, particularly during demanding bass passages.

Combined with the cabinet's Flowport bass-reflex system, the 802 D5 delivers a specified 17Hz–28kHz frequency response (±3dB), with low-frequency extension reaching 14Hz (-6dB).

This provides the scale and low-frequency capability required for orchestral music, electronic recordings, and high-impact cinematic soundtracks.

Enhanced Matrix Cabinet with Aluminum Space Frame

The 802 D5 incorporates Bowers & Wilkins' latest Matrix cabinet architecture, reinforced with aluminum Space Frame Bracing.

Internal bracing increases structural rigidity and minimizes unwanted cabinet vibration. A substantial aluminum top section and optimized mechanical damping further reduce resonances that can interfere with driver performance.

The continuous curved cabinet is secured by a solid aluminum spine, reducing internal reflections and standing waves.

This rigid, acoustically optimized structure provides a stable foundation for the speaker's four-driver system.

Flowport Bass-Reflex Engineering

Bowers & Wilkins' Flowport technology uses a textured port surface to reduce air turbulence and unwanted noise as the bass drivers move air through the enclosure.

The result is cleaner low-frequency reproduction, improved bass definition, and reduced port compression at higher playback levels.

Combined with the dual Aerofoil woofers, Flowport contributes to the 802 D5's impressive bass extension and controlled dynamic response.

Reference Amplifier Matching

The 802 D5 combines 90dB sensitivity with an 8-ohm nominal impedance and a minimum impedance of 3.3 ohms.

Although compatible with a range of premium amplifiers, its demanding low-frequency capabilities benefit from amplification with substantial current delivery and control.

Bowers & Wilkins specifies a recommended amplifier power range of 50–500 watts into 8 ohms, making the 802 D5 an excellent candidate for high-performance integrated amplifiers or separate preamplifier and power amplifier systems.

Premium Cabinet Finishes

The Bowers & Wilkins 802 D5 is available in four finishes:

  • Stealth Black

  • Warm White

  • Light Walnut

  • Dark Walnut

Each finish features coordinated Leather by Connolly trim and a matching grille color, combining reference acoustic engineering with exceptional material quality.
