AudioQuest Monsoon — AC Power Cable

This is where AudioQuest’s power-cable lineup takes a serious step forward. The AudioQuest Monsoon combines True-Concentric Perfect-Surface Copper+ (PSC+) and Long-Grain Copper (LGC) conductors, ZERO-Tech, RF/ND-Tech, and Direction-Controlled Conductors in a cable designed for both source components and demanding amplification.

Unlike the NRG cables below it, Monsoon is part of AudioQuest’s higher-performance power architecture and is offered in both 15-amp C13 and 20-amp C19 configurations, making it equally at home feeding a high-quality source component, integrated amplifier, power amplifier, or power conditioner.

True-Concentric PSC+ and LGC Conductors

Monsoon moves beyond the Semi-Solid Concentric construction used in the NRG series to AudioQuest’s more advanced True-Concentric conductor geometry.

True-Concentric construction maintains an even more precise relationship between the individual conductor strands. AudioQuest says this further reduces strand interaction, resulting in lower distortion and improved resolution.

The conductor itself combines two premium copper types: Perfect-Surface Copper+ (PSC+) and Long-Grain Copper (LGC).

AudioQuest places its highest-purity PSC+ on the outside of the conductor, where it has the greatest influence, with LGC forming the core. According to AudioQuest, this combination of conductor geometry and metal quality is designed to reduce grain-boundary and Transient Intermodulation distortion.

ZERO-Tech — Uncompressed Current Delivery

Monsoon incorporates AudioQuest’s ZERO-Tech, designed to address characteristic impedance as well as conventional DC resistance.

AudioQuest explains that many AC cables can restrict or compress sudden current demands even when their DC resistance is relatively low. ZERO-Tech is engineered to provide no characteristic impedance, allowing the cable to deliver high-current transients on demand without that restriction.

That makes Monsoon particularly relevant for amplifiers and other components whose current requirements can change dramatically with the music.

RF/ND-Tech — Serious RF Noise Dissipation

Power cables don't just carry AC—they can also introduce radio-frequency noise into a system.

AudioQuest's RF/ND-Tech (Radio-Frequency Noise-Dissipation Technology) is designed specifically to combat this problem. AC ground wires can behave like antennas, collecting RF energy that can bypass a component's power supply and reach sensitive audio and video circuitry.

Monsoon uses a common-mode phase-cancelling array together with proprietary dielectric materials and differential linear filtering to reduce induced RF noise across a wide bandwidth.

The objective is lower noise without sacrificing the instantaneous current delivery needed for dynamics.

Direction-Controlled Conductors

Every internal conductor in Monsoon is Direction-Controlled.

AudioQuest controls the orientation of its conductors to manage RF impedance variations within the metal and direct noise away from the connected electronics.

It's another example of AudioQuest treating a power cable not simply as a heavier-gauge electrical cord, but as part of the system's overall noise-management architecture.

This is one of the reasons Monsoon is such a versatile cable.

AudioQuest specifically positions it as an upgrade for both constant-current and variable-current audio/video components.

That makes Monsoon appropriate for components such as:

C19 → 3-Prong Wall Plug
For compatible 20-amp high-current components.

That C19 option becomes especially important with large power amplifiers and premium power conditioners that use a 20-amp IEC connection.

Monsoon vs. NRG-Z3

This is an important transition in the AudioQuest lineup.

NRG-Z3 already gives you PSC+ copper, ZERO-Tech, RF/ND-Tech, and Direction-Controlled construction.

Monsoon moves to True-Concentric conductors and combines PSC+ with LGC in a more advanced conductor architecture. It also adds a 20-amp C19 option, making Monsoon suitable for considerably more demanding amplification and power applications.

So while NRG-Z3 is an excellent premium upgrade from a stock power cord, Monsoon is where we start getting into power cables that make sense throughout a serious high-end system.
