AudioQuest NRG-Z3 — AC Power Cable

Premium copper. Lower noise. Unrestricted power delivery. The AudioQuest NRG-Z3 is the top C13 power cable in AudioQuest’s NRG range, bringing technologies normally associated with the company’s more advanced power products into a relatively accessible cable.

NRG-Z3 combines Perfect-Surface Copper+ (PSC+) conductors, ZERO-Tech, RF/ND-Tech, Semi-Solid Concentric construction, silver-plated drain wires, and Direction-Controlled Conductors. It is designed as a serious upgrade for DACs, streamers, preamplifiers, integrated amplifiers, powered speakers, televisions, gaming systems, and other components using a standard IEC-C13 power inlet.

Perfect-Surface Copper+ — AudioQuest’s Best Copper

The major material upgrade in NRG-Z3 is Perfect-Surface Copper+ (PSC+).

AudioQuest describes PSC+ as its highest-grade copper. Its exceptionally smooth and pure conductor surface is designed to minimize distortion caused by the grain boundaries and surface discontinuities present in conventional metal conductors.

This is what separates the Z-series from the Y-series we just covered. NRG-Y3 uses Long-Grain Copper; NRG-Z3 moves up to PSC+.

ZERO-Tech — Uncompressed Transient Current

NRG-Z3 incorporates AudioQuest’s ZERO-Tech, which addresses something conventional power-cable specifications often overlook: characteristic impedance.

AudioQuest designs ZERO-Tech to provide zero characteristic impedance, allowing the cable to deliver sudden transient-current demands without the compression the company associates with conventional AC cable geometries.

For audio applications, this becomes particularly important when a component's power supply suddenly demands additional current during dynamic musical passages.

RF/ND-Tech Noise Dissipation

NRG-Z3 also adds AudioQuest’s RF/ND-Tech (Radio-Frequency Noise-Dissipation Technology).

A component's AC ground wire can act like an antenna, picking up radio-frequency noise that may bypass the power supply and enter sensitive audio/video circuitry. AudioQuest's RF/ND-Tech uses a common-mode phase-cancelling array together with proprietary dielectric materials and differential linear filtering to reduce this induced RF noise across a wide bandwidth.

This is an important distinction from simply shielding a power cable—the NRG-Z3 is engineered to actively address the way RF noise behaves within the complete power connection.

Semi-Solid Concentric Conductors

The NRG-Z3 uses Semi-Solid Concentric conductor construction rather than a conventional random bundle of copper strands.

The strands are tightly packed and maintain their position within the conductor bundle. AudioQuest says this significantly reduces strand interaction, which it identifies as a major source of dynamic distortion in conventional stranded cables.

Combined with PSC+, this provides a considerably more sophisticated conductive path than a standard molded power cord.

Silver-Plated Drain Wires

NRG-Z3 uses direction-controlled silver-plated shield conductors to drain RF noise collected by the line and neutral shields toward ground through the third pin of the AC plug.

AudioQuest applies 0.5% silver plating over high-quality copper specifically to improve Noise-Dissipation performance.

Direction-Controlled Conductors

Every internal conductor in the NRG-Z3 is Direction-Controlled.

AudioQuest controls conductor orientation to manage RF impedance variation and ensure induced noise is dissipated away from the connected electronics. This directionality forms part of AudioQuest's broader Noise-Dissipation architecture.

Standard C13 Connection

NRG-Z3 uses the extremely common IEC-C13 connection with a grounded 3-prong wall plug, making it suitable for a huge range of high-performance audio and video equipment.

Typical applications include:

  • DACs and music streamers
  • Preamplifiers
  • Integrated amplifiers
  • Disc players
  • Powered speakers
  • Network components
  • Televisions and video equipment
  • Game consoles
  • Other electronics using an IEC-C13 inlet

AudioQuest specifically identifies DACs, powered desktop speakers, game consoles, streamers, and similar electronics as applications for NRG-Z3.

Available Lengths

The NRG-Z3 is available in:

1m / 3.5 ft
2m / 6.75 ft
3m / 10 ft

NRG-Z3 vs. NRG-Y3

The progression between these two is worth explaining clearly on The Grid's site.

NRG-Y3 already gives you ZERO-Tech, Semi-Solid Concentric construction, Long-Grain Copper, and silver-plated drain wires.

NRG-Z3 upgrades the conductor material to Perfect-Surface Copper+ and adds AudioQuest's RF/ND-Tech, creating a more sophisticated approach to both power delivery and RF-noise reduction.

That makes NRG-Z3 the premium C13 choice within AudioQuest's NRG family before moving into the company's higher-level Storm Series power cables.

The Grid HiFi

The AudioQuest NRG-Z3 hits an interesting sweet spot. It incorporates PSC+, ZERO-Tech, and RF/ND-Tech without requiring the jump into AudioQuest's considerably more ambitious Storm Series.

At The Grid HiFi, we can help match the appropriate AudioQuest power cable to each component rather than simply putting the same cable everywhere. Source components, processors, integrated amplifiers, power amplifiers, and power conditioners can have very different requirements.

For a complete system, we can also pair AudioQuest power cables with the appropriate PowerQuest or Niagara power conditioner to create a properly designed power foundation from the wall outlet all the way to the component.
