AudioQuest NRG-Z2 — AC Power Cable

Premium power technology for components with a C7 connection. The AudioQuest NRG-Z2 takes a substantial step up within AudioQuest’s NRG range, combining Perfect-Surface Copper+ (PSC+), Semi-Solid Concentric conductors, ZERO-Tech, silver-plated drain wires, and Direction-Controlled Conductors.

Designed for DACs, streamers, powered speakers, game consoles, and other electronics using a slim two-pole IEC-C7 connection, NRG-Z2 brings AudioQuest’s best copper conductor material to this compact power-cable format.

Perfect-Surface Copper+ — AudioQuest’s Best Copper

The defining upgrade in the NRG-Z2 is Perfect-Surface Copper+ (PSC+).

AudioQuest describes PSC+ as its highest-grade copper. The extremely smooth, high-purity conductor surface is designed to minimize distortion associated with the grain boundaries and surface discontinuities found in conventional metal conductors.

This is an important progression from the Long-Grain Copper (LGC) used in NRG-Y2. For a higher-performance source component that still uses a C7 inlet, NRG-Z2 provides a way to move into AudioQuest’s premium copper without changing connector formats.

ZERO-Tech — Uncompressed Transient Current

NRG-Z2 incorporates AudioQuest’s ZERO-Tech.

AudioQuest explains that an AC cable’s performance isn't determined by DC resistance alone. Characteristic impedance can also affect the delivery of transient current.

ZERO-Tech is designed to eliminate characteristic impedance between the cable’s high and low conductors, allowing transient current to pass without the compression AudioQuest associates with conventional AC cables. The architecture also supports linear RF Noise-Dissipation.

The objective is simple: deliver power without restricting the instantaneous demands of the connected component.

Semi-Solid Concentric Conductors

NRG-Z2 uses Semi-Solid Concentric conductor geometry rather than conventional random-strand construction.

The individual strands are tightly packed and maintain their position within the bundle. AudioQuest says this arrangement significantly reduces strand interaction, which it identifies as a major source of dynamic distortion in stranded cables.

Combined with PSC+, this gives the NRG-Z2 a considerably more sophisticated conductor architecture than a standard detachable power cord.

Silver-Plated Drain Wires

RF noise is another major focus of the NRG-Z2 design.

AudioQuest uses direction-controlled drain wires with 0.5% silver plating over high-quality copper. These conductors are designed to efficiently drain RF noise collected by the line and neutral shields to ground through the third grounding pin at the wall plug.

This allows the NRG-Z2 to use its grounded wall connection for noise management even though the component end terminates in a two-pole C7 connector.

Direction-Controlled Conductors

Every internal conductor in NRG-Z2 is Direction-Controlled.

AudioQuest controls conductor orientation to manage RF impedance variations and ensure induced noise is dissipated and drained in the intended direction. This forms an integral part of the company’s broader Noise-Dissipation architecture.

Slim IEC-C7 Connection

NRG-Z2 uses the familiar IEC-C7 “figure-8” connector, making it an excellent power upgrade for compatible:

NRG-Z2 vs. NRG-Y2

This is where the progression in AudioQuest’s C7 power cables becomes particularly clear.

NRG-Y2 uses Long-Grain Copper with Semi-Solid Concentric construction, ZERO-Tech, and silver-plated drain wires.

NRG-Z2 upgrades the conductor material to Perfect-Surface Copper+ (PSC+), while retaining ZERO-Tech, Semi-Solid Concentric geometry, silver-plated drain wires, and Direction-Controlled Conductors.

So for a customer with a better DAC, streamer, powered speaker, or other C7-equipped component, NRG-Z2 is the premium copper step in AudioQuest’s C7 NRG lineup.
