AudioQuest NRG-Y3 — AC Power Cable

Clean power, unrestricted dynamics. The AudioQuest NRG-Y3 is a high-performance C13 AC power cable that brings several of AudioQuest’s important power technologies together at an accessible level: ZERO-Tech, Semi-Solid Concentric Long-Grain Copper conductors, silver-plated drain wires, and Direction-Controlled Conductors.

Designed as a substantial upgrade over standard factory power cords, NRG-Y3 is well suited for DACs, streamers, preamplifiers, powered speakers, televisions, disc players, and other audio/video components using the common IEC-C13 connection.

ZERO-Tech — Uncompressed Transient Current

One of the most important technologies in the NRG-Y3 is AudioQuest ZERO-Tech.

AudioQuest explains that low DC resistance alone isn't enough for an AC power cable. Characteristic impedance can also affect a component's ability to respond to sudden current demands.

ZERO-Tech is designed to eliminate the electrostatic field between the cable's high and low conductors, creating zero characteristic impedance. The goal is to allow transient current to pass without the compression AudioQuest associates with conventional AC power cables.

For audio systems, that means the cable is engineered not only to reduce noise but also to stay out of the way when the connected component demands instantaneous power.

Long-Grain Copper Conductors

NRG-Y3 uses high-purity Long-Grain Copper (LGC).

AudioQuest selects LGC to minimize distortion caused by the grain boundaries present in conventional copper conductors. Fewer boundaries in the conductive path mean fewer opportunities for unwanted electrical behavior as power travels through the cable.

It's one of the fundamental material upgrades that separates NRG-Y3 from an ordinary molded power cord.

Semi-Solid Concentric Construction

The NRG-Y3 doesn't use a conventional bundle of randomly arranged copper strands.

Its Semi-Solid Concentric Conductors are packed tightly so the individual strands maintain their position within the bundle. AudioQuest says this geometry significantly reduces strand-interaction distortion, a major source of dynamic distortion in conventional stranded cables.

Silver-Plated Drain Wires

NRG-Y3 incorporates direction-controlled silver-plated shield conductors engineered specifically to deal with RF noise.

AudioQuest applies 0.5% silver plating over high-quality copper. These drain wires direct RF noise collected by the line and neutral shields toward ground through the third grounding pin of the AC plug.

This gives NRG-Y3 a much more sophisticated approach to noise management than a conventional three-conductor AC cable.

Direction-Controlled Conductors

Every internal conductor in the NRG-Y3 is Direction-Controlled.

AudioQuest controls conductor orientation to manage RF impedance variation and ensure induced noise is dissipated in the intended direction. This is a fundamental part of AudioQuest's broader Noise-Dissipation technology.

The objective is straightforward: keep RF noise away from the sensitive electronics you're trying to power.
