AudioQuest NRG Edison — Duplex Wall Outlet

The AudioQuest NRG Edison Duplex Wall Outlet is engineered to provide a tighter, lower-impedance connection than a conventional household receptacle, creating a better electrical foundation for high-performance audio and home theater systems.

Available in 15-amp and 20-amp versions, the NRG Edison combines high-mass beryllium-copper contacts, hanging-silver plating, exceptional gripping strength, and AudioQuest's approach to RF Noise-Dissipation.

High-Mass Beryllium-Copper Contacts

Most standard AC receptacles rely on relatively inexpensive brass contacts. AudioQuest instead uses high-mass beryllium-copper as the base metal for the NRG Edison.

Beryllium-copper provides excellent spring tension, allowing the receptacle to maintain a strong mechanical grip on an AC plug over time. That tight connection also helps maintain a long-lasting, low-impedance path for AC power.

For a serious audio system, that's important. Your power conditioner, amplifier, or source component ultimately depends on the quality of the connection between its power cable and the electrical system feeding it.

Hanging-Silver Plated Contact Surfaces

The NRG Edison uses polished high-tension contact surfaces with hanging-silver plating.

AudioQuest chose silver not simply for its conductivity, but as part of its Noise-Dissipation strategy. The company designs the outlet to help direct signal-masking radio-frequency noise away from sensitive components and toward the electrical system's transformer and earth ground.

Greater Metal Mass for Current Delivery

The NRG Edison uses significantly greater metal mass than a conventional wall receptacle, extending beyond the retention blades to the outlet's ground, wire, and spade-lug connections.

The objective is simple: reduce AC impedance and provide an unrestricted connection for current delivery.

That makes the NRG Edison especially appropriate upstream of high-current equipment such as power amplifiers, integrated amplifiers, powered subwoofers, and AudioQuest's own PowerQuest and Niagara power conditioners.

Low-Z Power Noise-Dissipation

AudioQuest considers the wall receptacle part of the system's overall power and noise-management architecture.

The NRG Edison uses high-conductivity silver over beryllium-copper contacts—including the critical grounding path—to improve radio-frequency Noise-Dissipation compared with conventional outlet materials such as steel, chrome, and nickel.

It's a small component in the overall system, but it's also the physical connection through which virtually everything downstream receives power.

15-Amp and 20-Amp Versions

The NRG Edison is available in both:

NRG Edison 15 — 15 Amp
Designed for appropriately rated 15-amp branch circuits.

NRG Edison 20 — 20 Amp
Designed for 20-amp service. AudioQuest specifies a 20-amp circuit breaker with at least #12 AWG wiring for this application.

The outlet itself can accommodate wire as large as #8 AWG.

An Excellent Upgrade for a Dedicated Audio Circuit

For dedicated AC lines, AudioQuest recommends solid-core electrical-grade wiring where possible and considers #10 to #12 AWG an effective compromise between low AC impedance and RF Noise-Dissipation.

A dedicated circuit isn't mandatory, however. AudioQuest states that systems using conventional household wiring can still benefit from replacing the standard receptacle with an NRG Edison.

For a purpose-built listening room or private cinema, pairing the appropriate electrical circuit with the NRG Edison provides a strong starting point before adding a PowerQuest or Niagara conditioner.
