Overview
AudioQuest Niagara 5000 Power Conditioner & Surge Protection
12 outlets | 90+ amp transient current reservoir | Ultra-Linear Noise Dissipation | Non-sacrificial surge protection
The AudioQuest Niagara 5000 is a reference-level AC power conditioner designed for high-performance two-channel audio, home theater, and complex A/V systems. Sitting between the Niagara 3000 and flagship Niagara 7000, it significantly increases outlet capacity and current delivery while incorporating AudioQuest’s advanced AC Ground-Noise Dissipation and Ultra-Linear Noise-Dissipation technologies.
At the heart of the Niagara 5000 is AudioQuest’s Transient Power Correction circuit, providing an instantaneous current reservoir of more than 90 amps peak for up to 25 milliseconds. Rather than restricting current to large power amplifiers, the system is specifically engineered to provide a low-impedance source during demanding musical transients.
Key Features
- 12 AC outlets: Expanded capacity for larger audio and home theater systems.
- 90+ amp peak current reservoir: Transient Power Correction supplies more than 90 amps peak for up to 25 mS.
- Patented Ground-Noise Dissipation: Designed to reduce ground-borne noise and associated distortion.
- Ultra-Linear Noise-Dissipation: Differential- and common-mode filtering across a wide bandwidth.
- AQ-formed RF filtering capacitors: Designed for improved linearity and reduced AC line and radio-frequency noise.
- Direction-controlled solid wiring: Ultra-low-resistance internal wiring optimized for RF noise dissipation.
- Non-sacrificial surge protection: Protects connected equipment without relying on sacrificial components that degrade after significant surge events.
- Over-voltage shutdown: Automatically disconnects connected equipment during dangerous sustained voltage conditions and resets when safe operating conditions return.
- Zero Ground-Contamination Technology: Prevents surge energy and noise from being dumped onto the AC ground.
More Current for Demanding Amplifiers
The Niagara 5000 is particularly well suited to systems built around large power amplifiers, monoblocks, powered subwoofers, and other current-demanding components.
AudioQuest emphasizes that Transient Power Correction does more than minimize current compression. The circuit provides an ultra-low-impedance buffered source capable of supplying over 90 amps peak during short-duration AC current transients.
That represents a significant step up from the 55+ amp peak reservoir of the Niagara 3000 and makes the 5000 a logical choice for larger reference-level systems.
Ultra-Linear Noise Dissipation
Sensitive source components have different power requirements than large amplifiers.
The Niagara 5000 uses AudioQuest's Ultra-Linear Noise-Dissipation technology to address both differential- and common-mode AC noise while maintaining a linear response across varying line and load impedances.
AudioQuest also uses specially formed AC RF filtering capacitors and direction-controlled internal wiring to further dissipate radio-frequency noise that can enter a system through the AC line.
Comprehensive Equipment Protection
The Niagara 5000 combines performance-oriented AC treatment with non-sacrificial surge suppression and automatic over-voltage shutdown.
Instead of intentionally directing surge energy to the AC ground, AudioQuest's Zero Ground-Contamination technology is designed to prevent noise and surge energy from contaminating the ground connection shared by sensitive audio and video components.

Niagara 5000 vs. Niagara 7000
The biggest distinction between the Niagara 5000 and flagship Niagara 7000 is not simply outlet count or current capability.
The Niagara 5000 does not use the Niagara 7000's dielectric-biased symmetrical power isolation transformers. Those transformers provide the 7000 with an additional level of common-mode AC and RF noise dissipation for low-current source components.
There is also an interesting reason someone might deliberately choose the 5000. AudioQuest explains that some custom-install, professional-audio, and video components require more current than the 7000's isolation-transformer source banks provide. The 5000 therefore offers greater flexibility for certain large or complex systems.
AudioQuest itself describes the Niagara 5000 as delivering 90% of the source-component performance of the 7000 and 100% of its amplifier performance.
Where the Niagara 5000 Fits
| Niagara 3000 | Niagara 5000 | Niagara 7000 | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Position | High-performance | Reference | Flagship |
| Total outlets | 7 | 12 | 12 |
| Peak transient current | 55+ amps | 90+ amps | 90+ amps |
| Ultra-Linear Noise Dissipation | — | Yes | Yes |
| Dielectric-biased isolation transformers | No | No | Yes |
| U.S. MSRP | $4,500 | $6,900 | $12,500 |
For larger systems, the Niagara 5000 occupies an important middle ground: substantially greater capacity and current capability than the Niagara 3000, while retaining a considerably lower price than the transformer-equipped flagship Niagara 7000.
