Overview
AudioQuest Dragon Constant-Current (Source) — AC Power Cable
AudioQuest’s ultimate power cable for reference source electronics. The Dragon Constant-Current (Source) sits at the top of AudioQuest’s power-cable hierarchy and is optimized specifically for audio/video source components with relatively constant current draw. Unlike FireBird’s combination of silver and copper, Dragon moves to 100% solid Perfect-Surface Silver (PSS) conductors and PSS drains, together with ZERO-Tech, RF/ND-Tech, 72V Dielectric-Bias System (DBS), and Direction-Controlled construction.
For a no-compromise DAC, streamer, preamplifier, phono stage, or digital source, this is AudioQuest’s full-silver approach to AC power delivery and RF-noise management.
100% Solid Perfect-Surface Silver Conductors
This is what defines Dragon.
The primary conductors are solid Perfect-Surface Silver (PSS)—AudioQuest’s highest-quality conductor metal. There is no copper mixed into the primary conductor architecture as there is with FireBird.
AudioQuest says its Perfect-Surface process minimizes distortion associated with grain boundaries while solid construction eliminates the electrical and magnetic strand interaction found in conventional stranded conductors. PSS also provides extremely high conductivity for AudioQuest’s linear RF Noise-Dissipation architecture.
At this level, AudioQuest is no longer balancing copper and silver to achieve a particular price/performance point. Dragon is the all-PSS solution.
Designed Specifically for Constant-Current Source Components
Dragon Source is optimized for audio/video electronics with relatively constant or “fixed” current draw.
That makes it particularly appropriate for reference-level components such as:
- DACs
- Network streamers
- Music servers
- Preamplifiers
- Phono stages
- CD/SACD players
- Reference digital transports
- Turntable power supplies
- High-end audio/video source electronics
For large amplifiers and other components with rapidly changing current demands, the corresponding Dragon High (Variable) Current cable is the appropriate version.
ZERO-Tech — Uncompressed Current Transfer
Low DC resistance is only part of the power-delivery equation.
AudioQuest’s ZERO-Tech addresses the cable’s characteristic impedance. AudioQuest explains that conventional AC cables can constrict or compress an audio-provoked current transient; its combination of low DC resistance and zero characteristic impedance is intended to deliver those transients without compression.
Even source components contain power supplies responding dynamically to what the circuitry is doing. Dragon is engineered so the AC cable itself places as little restriction as possible between the component and its power source.
RF/ND-Tech — Wide-Bandwidth RF Noise Dissipation
Modern audio systems operate in an environment filled with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, cellular signals, network equipment, computers, switching power supplies, smart-home electronics, and other sources of RF energy.
AudioQuest points out that an AC ground wire can effectively act as an antenna. Induced RF noise can bypass a component’s power supply and couple into sensitive audio/video circuitry.
Dragon’s patented RF/ND-Tech uses a common-mode phase-cancelling array together with proprietary dielectric materials and differential linear filtering to reduce induced RF noise across a wide range of radio frequencies.
For a reference source component handling extremely low-level information, that noise-management architecture is just as important as the cable’s current-delivery capability.
Solid PSS RF-Drain Conductors
Dragon also uses Direction-Controlled solid Perfect-Surface Silver shield conductors to drain RF noise from the line and neutral shields to ground through the third ground pin.
So unlike FireBird, where PSS and PSC+ are combined for the main conductors, Dragon uses PSS throughout the critical conductor architecture:
Primary conductors: Solid Perfect-Surface Silver
RF-drain conductors: Solid Perfect-Surface Silver
This extensive use of PSS is the fundamental material difference that establishes Dragon at the top of AudioQuest’s power-cable range.
72V Dielectric-Bias System
Dragon incorporates AudioQuest’s 72V Dielectric-Bias System (DBS).
DBS continuously saturates and polarizes the cable’s insulation. AudioQuest says this reduces dielectric-related noise and supports clearer, more dynamic reproduction against a quieter background.
Rather than treating insulation as electrically irrelevant, AudioQuest incorporates the dielectric itself into Dragon’s overall Noise-Dissipation architecture.
Direction-Controlled Conductors
All of Dragon’s internal conductors are Direction-Controlled.
AudioQuest explains that drawn metal has a non-symmetrical grain structure and therefore exhibits direction-dependent RF impedance. The company controls conductor orientation so induced noise is drained away from areas where it could contribute to distortion.
The solid PSS shield conductors are Direction-Controlled as well, making conductor orientation an integral part of Dragon’s RF-noise management.
C13 and High-Current C19 Options
For the U.S. and Canadian market, Dragon Constant-Current is available with:
C13 → 3-Prong Wall Plug — for components using a conventional IEC-C13 inlet.
C19 → 3-Prong Wall Plug — for compatible components using the larger IEC-C19 connection.
Available Lengths
Dragon Constant-Current (Source) is available in:
1m / 3 ft 3 in
2m / 6 ft 6 in
3m / 9 ft 10 in
AudioQuest states that Dragon is made to order at its Irvine, California headquarters, with custom lengths and terminations available through authorized AudioQuest dealers.

Dragon Source vs. FireBird Source
This is the final material step in AudioQuest’s source power-cable hierarchy.
FireBird Source combines solid Perfect-Surface Silver with solid Perfect-Surface Copper+ in its primary conductor system. That design strategically introduces PSS into the current-carrying path while retaining PSC+.
Dragon eliminates that compromise. Its primary conductors are solid Perfect-Surface Silver. Dragon also uses solid PSS conductors for RF drainage.
Hurricane: PSC+ power conductors + PSS RF drains
FireBird: PSS + PSC+ power conductors + PSS RF drains
Dragon: PSS power conductors + PSS RF drains
That's the cleanest explanation of why Dragon exists—and it gives the customer a tangible technical difference rather than simply describing it as the most expensive model.
The Grid HiFi
The AudioQuest Dragon Constant-Current (Source) is intended for systems where compromise has already been removed almost everywhere else. When the DAC, streamer, preamplifier, phono stage, and associated electronics are operating at reference level, Dragon brings AudioQuest’s highest-grade conductor material and most advanced power technologies to the AC connection itself.
At The Grid HiFi, we can match Dragon Source to the components where its Constant-Current architecture makes sense while using AudioQuest’s High/Variable-Current designs for amplifiers and other current-demanding equipment.
For reference systems, we can also design the entire power architecture—from the wall through AudioQuest Niagara power conditioning and ultimately to each source component and amplifier—so AC power delivery and RF-noise management are engineered as part of the complete system.
