AudioQuest FireBird ZERO sits between ThunderBird and Dragon in the Mythical Creatures Series, bringing a major conductor upgrade to AudioQuest’s advanced ZERO speaker-cable platform. FireBird combines Solid Perfect-Surface Silver (PSS) and Solid Perfect-Surface Copper+ (PSC+) conductors, carefully selected so its performance approaches an all-PSS design while remaining below Dragon in price.

FireBird ZERO can be used either as an exceptional full-range speaker cable or as the treble cable in a dedicated bi-wire system when partnered with FireBird BASS.

Perfect-Surface Silver + Perfect-Surface Copper+

The conductor architecture is one of the most important reasons to move from ThunderBird ZERO to FireBird ZERO.

FireBird combines AudioQuest’s Solid Perfect-Surface Silver (PSS) and Solid Perfect-Surface Copper+ (PSC+) conductors. AudioQuest carefully chooses the sizes and proportions of the two conductor materials to achieve performance it says is close to an all-PSS silver design at a significantly lower cost.

The solid-conductor construction eliminates electrical strand-to-strand interaction, while AudioQuest’s Perfect-Surface process uses exceptionally smooth, high-purity conductor surfaces to minimize distortion.

ZERO-Tech — No Fixed Characteristic Impedance

FireBird incorporates AudioQuest’s ZERO-Tech architecture.

Conventional speaker cables have a fixed characteristic impedance that can create an impedance mismatch between the amplifier, cable, and loudspeaker. ZERO-Tech eliminates the cable's fixed characteristic impedance by eliminating interaction between the insulation and conductors.

AudioQuest says this enables uncompressed current transfer, allowing transient current to remain unrestricted while making RF Noise Dissipation more consistent from octave to octave.

For powerful amplifiers driving demanding loudspeakers, preserving transient-current delivery is a fundamental part of FireBird ZERO's design.

Carbon-Based Linearized Noise-Dissipation System

FireBird ZERO uses AudioQuest's comprehensive Carbon-Based Linearized Noise-Dissipation System.

Modern listening environments contain significant radio-frequency energy from cellular networks, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, satellites, switching electronics, and other sources. AudioQuest argues that conventional shielding alone cannot adequately address this extremely wide spectrum of RF noise.

FireBird combines multiple shields with a carbon-based linearized resistive network that converts much of this unwanted RF energy into heat. Remaining noise is directed away from sensitive amplifier circuitry through direction-controlled signal and shield conductors.

72V Dielectric-Bias System with Level-X RF Noise-Trap

FireBird ZERO incorporates AudioQuest's 72V Dielectric-Bias System (DBS) with Level-X RF Noise-Trap.

Cable insulation also acts as a dielectric and can store energy. AudioQuest continuously biases that dielectric to linearize its behavior and improve the cable's ability to dissipate induced noise across a wide bandwidth.

The integrated Level-X RF Noise-Trap further draws RF noise out of the cable, reducing its interaction with the connected amplifier and loudspeaker circuitry.

Direction-Controlled Conductors

AudioQuest carefully controls conductor direction throughout FireBird ZERO as another component of its RF Noise-Dissipation architecture.

Rather than treating directionality as an isolated feature, AudioQuest integrates conductor orientation with its Carbon-Based Linearized NDS, ZERO-Tech, and DBS technologies to provide a comprehensive approach to managing RF energy.

Cold-Welded Red Copper Terminations

FireBird ZERO is cold-welded directly to extremely pure Red Copper spades or bananas.

Cold-welding eliminates solder as an intermediate material between the cable conductor and connector. AudioQuest then immerses the bare Red Copper connectors in pure silver rather than tumbling them in a lower-grade plating solution.

Even the speaker breakouts and connector casings are deliberately made from nonmetallic materials to avoid introducing additional RF noise into the conductors.

Full-Range or Treble Use

FireBird ZERO is designed for two applications.

Full-Range: One FireBird ZERO cable connects each amplifier channel directly to the corresponding loudspeaker.

Bi-Wire: FireBird ZERO feeds the loudspeaker's treble input while a dedicated FireBird BASS cable handles the bass and midrange section.

That means customers can begin with FireBird ZERO as a full-range cable and still have a clear path to AudioQuest's dedicated ZERO + BASS architecture if their loudspeakers support bi-wiring.

FireBird ZERO + FireBird BASS

For a bi-wireable loudspeaker, AudioQuest recommends:

FireBird ZERO → Treble
FireBird BASS → Bass / Midrange

The objective is to keep the large magnetic fields generated by bass energy out of the treble cable, allowing delicate upper-frequency information to travel through a less magnetically disturbed signal path. FireBird BASS also incorporates AudioQuest's patented Ground-Noise Dissipation technology to draw RF energy away from the amplifier output.

AudioQuest specifically cautions against bi-wiring with two ZERO cables in parallel. Multiple ZERO cables in parallel can create a very-high-frequency resonant peak. For bi-wiring, AudioQuest specifies ZERO + BASS; otherwise, a single ZERO cable should be used with the loudspeaker's jumpers.

For convenience, AudioQuest also offers a FireBird BiWire COMBO, which joins the ZERO and BASS sections together at the amplifier end.

FireBird ZERO vs. ThunderBird ZERO
