True-Concentric PSC+ and LGC Conductors

Monsoon XTRM uses AudioQuest's True-Concentric conductor geometry, which provides more controlled strand relationships than Semi-Solid Concentric construction. AudioQuest says the design further reduces strand interaction, lowering distortion and improving resolution.

The conductors combine Perfect-Surface Copper+ (PSC+) and Long-Grain Copper (LGC). PSC+ is used on the outside of the conductor with LGC at its core, allowing the conductive surface to be essentially all PSC+. AudioQuest specifically cites reduced grain-boundary and Transient Intermodulation distortion as benefits of this construction.

XTRM Plugs — The Important Upgrade

The defining difference in Monsoon XTRM is right at the connection.

AudioQuest equips the cable with its XTRM plugs, featuring cold-welded hanging-silver over red- and beryllium-copper contacts.

ZERO-Tech eliminates the electrostatic field between the cable's high and low conductors, enabling linear RF Noise-Dissipation while providing zero characteristic impedance. AudioQuest's objective is to prevent the current compression that can occur when a component suddenly demands additional power.

This is particularly important for power amplifiers, integrated amplifiers, and other variable-current components where instantaneous demand can change dramatically with the music.

RF/ND-Tech — Wide-Bandwidth RF Noise Dissipation

AC ground wires can behave like antennas and collect radio-frequency noise. That noise can bypass a component's power supply and couple into sensitive audio and video circuitry.

AudioQuest's patented RF/ND-Tech uses a common-mode phase-cancelling array, proprietary dielectric materials, and differential linear filtering to reduce induced RF noise across a wide bandwidth.

Monsoon XTRM vs. Monsoon

This distinction is important because the underlying conductor technology is very similar.

Both Monsoon and Monsoon XTRM use True-Concentric PSC+/LGC conductors, ZERO-Tech, RF/ND-Tech, and Direction-Controlled Conductors.

The significant upgrade with Monsoon XTRM is the termination system. Its XTRM plugs use cold-welded hanging-silver over red- and beryllium-copper contacts, upgrading the physical connection at both ends of the cable.
