Overview
Transrotor Dark Star Turntable
The Dark Side of Analog. Precision in Every Detail.
The Transrotor Dark Star is a striking expression of minimalist German turntable engineering. Finished in deep black and constructed around polyoxymethylene (POM), it replaces conventional visual ornamentation with a purposeful design focused on mechanical stability and resonance control.
The Dark Star holds a special place in Transrotor's history. It was the model through which founder Jochen Räke first developed his interest in POM as a turntable construction material. That material defines the Dark Star's identity, from its chassis and platter to its motor housing.
With a substantial 60 mm platter, precision belt-drive architecture, and an upgrade path to the Dark Star Reference, this is a turntable designed for listeners who appreciate both sophisticated engineering and understated industrial design.
POM Construction: A Different Approach to Turntable Design
The Dark Star's construction revolves around POM, a precision-machinable engineering polymer selected for its mechanical properties.
Its 30 mm-thick chassis provides a substantial foundation for the turntable, while the 60 mm-thick POM platter supplies the rotational mass needed for stable playback. The material's damping characteristics help control unwanted mechanical resonances that could interfere with the delicate process of tracing a record groove.
Rather than combining numerous contrasting materials for visual effect, Transrotor carries the black POM aesthetic throughout the design, creating a cohesive appearance with a clear engineering purpose.
A Substantial Platter for Stable Vinyl Playback
The Dark Star's 60 mm platter is one of its defining features.
Its substantial construction provides rotational inertia, helping maintain consistent rotation during playback. The turntable also includes a matching POM-and-brass record weight designed to secure the record against the platter.
Together, the heavy platter, record weight, and rigid chassis form the mechanical foundation of the Dark Star's analog playback system.
Precision Belt-Drive Engineering
The Dark Star uses a belt-driven architecture with an external motor assembly, separating the drive mechanism from the main platter and chassis.
This arrangement helps limit the direct transmission of motor vibration into the playback system.
The turntable can be configured with a compatible Transrotor Konstant power supply. Options include the Konstant EINS, Konstant Studio, Konstant M-1 Reference, and Konstant FMD.
The Konstant EINS, for example, provides electronic selection between 33 and 45 rpm, along with separate fine-speed adjustments.
Designed to Evolve: Upgrade to Dark Star Reference
One of the Dark Star's most appealing characteristics is its upgrade path.
The standard model can be converted to a Dark Star Reference by adding a second POM base assembly. The Reference version features a double-base construction that increases the overall height and mass of the turntable.
This allows owners to begin with the Dark Star and move to the more substantial Reference architecture without replacing the entire turntable.

Configure Your Transrotor Dark Star
The Dark Star is offered as a configurable analog platform rather than a fixed, ready-to-play package.
Choose your preferred power supply, tonearm, and cartridge to create a playback system tailored to your equipment and listening preferences.
An additional 9-inch tonearm base is available for customers interested in expanding the turntable's configuration. The optional Reference upgrade adds a second POM plinth assembly.
Important: The base turntable price does not include the power supply, tonearm, or cartridge. These components must be selected separately for a complete playback system.
