The Ortofon MC 90X reimagines the legendary MC A90, combining its original engineering philosophy with refinements in materials, magnet design, and damping technology. Designed for high-performance analog systems, the MC 90X delivers precise groove tracking, exceptional channel separation, and detailed musical reproduction.

At its heart is Ortofon's Replicant 100 diamond stylus, mounted on a lightweight, rigid boron cantilever. Aucurum quad-coil windings and a powerful neodymium magnet system work alongside Ortofon's Field Stabilizing Element to maintain magnetic-field stability and minimize dynamic distortion.

The cartridge's stainless-steel body is manufactured using Selective Laser Melting (SLM), while the Wide Range Damping system and newly developed rubber dampers help control resonance across the frequency spectrum.

MC A90 Heritage, Reengineered

The MC 90X builds on the original MC A90's design, retaining its advanced cartridge-body concept while incorporating updated materials and damping.

Replicant 100 and boron cantilever

The finely shaped Replicant 100 diamond is designed to follow the record groove with exceptional precision. Its boron cantilever provides a rigid, low-mass connection between the stylus and moving coil generator.

Field Stabilizing Element

Ortofon's FSE maintains a more consistent magnetic field as the armature moves, helping reduce dynamic distortion and intermodulation while supporting channel separation.

Selective Laser Melting

The stainless-steel body is manufactured using SLM technology. Its rigid structure and 9.5 g weight are designed to provide mechanical stability while supporting compatibility with a broad range of suitable tonearms.

Wide Range Damping

Ortofon's WRD system uses a platinum disc between two rubber absorbers with different properties. Together with the MC 90X's newly developed rubber dampers, the system controls resonance and stabilizes stylus movement.

Compatibility & Installation

The MC 90X uses standard ½-inch mounting and requires a compatible tonearm. Its low 0.25 mV output calls for a suitable low-output moving coil phono stage or a properly matched step-up transformer and phono preamplifier.

Ortofon recommends a tracking force of 2.3 grams and a load resistance greater than 10 ohms. Precise alignment and setup are important for obtaining the intended performance from the Replicant 100 stylus.
