FireBird makes a major material jump beyond Hurricane by combining solid Perfect-Surface Silver (PSS) and Perfect-Surface Copper+ (PSC+) primary conductors, along with solid PSS RF-drain conductors, ZERO-Tech, RF/ND-Tech, 72V Dielectric-Bias System (DBS), and Direction-Controlled construction.

Designed for Constant-Current Source Components

FireBird Source is optimized for audio/video components with a relatively constant or “fixed” current draw.

Solid Perfect-Surface Silver + Perfect-Surface Copper+

This is the headline technology in FireBird Source.

FireBird combines solid Perfect-Surface Silver (PSS) with solid Perfect-Surface Copper+ (PSC+) for its current-carrying conductors. AudioQuest carefully selects the sizes and proportions of PSS and PSC+ to achieve performance it describes as approaching an all-PSS design, but at a substantially lower cost.

That's a meaningful step above Hurricane.

Both PSC+ and PSS receive AudioQuest's Perfect-Surface processing, designed to create exceptionally smooth and pure conductor surfaces. AudioQuest says this greatly reduces distortion associated with grain boundaries and conductor-surface irregularities.

Solid Conductors — No Strand Interaction

FireBird uses solid conductors throughout the critical signal path.

Conventional stranded conductors introduce numerous electrical contacts between individual strands. AudioQuest identifies this strand-to-strand interaction as a significant source of dynamic distortion.

By using solid PSS and PSC+ conductors, FireBird eliminates that interaction entirely.

At this level, AudioQuest is addressing not only the purity of the metal but also how the conductors themselves behave electrically.

ZERO-Tech — Uncompressed Current Transfer

AudioQuest's ZERO-Tech eliminates the electrostatic field between the cable's high and low conductors.

This geometry enables linear RF Noise-Dissipation while supporting uncompressed transient-current transfer, rather than allowing the cable's characteristic impedance to become an additional restriction between the AC supply and the component.

Even though FireBird Source is designed for constant-current electronics, the power supplies inside reference DACs, preamplifiers, streamers, and source components still respond dynamically. ZERO-Tech is designed to let those power supplies operate without unnecessary current compression.

RF/ND-Tech — Wide-Bandwidth RF Noise Dissipation

Modern systems exist in an increasingly RF-heavy environment filled with Wi-Fi, cellular networks, Bluetooth, computers, switching power supplies, networking equipment, and smart-home electronics.

AC ground conductors can act as antennas for this radio-frequency energy. AudioQuest notes that induced RF noise can bypass a component's power supply and couple directly into sensitive audio/video circuitry.

FireBird's patented RF/ND-Tech combines a common-mode phase-cancelling array, proprietary dielectric materials, and differential linear filtering to reduce induced RF noise across a very wide bandwidth.

For reference source electronics dealing with extremely small signals, controlling that noise becomes particularly important.

Solid Perfect-Surface Silver RF-Drain Conductors

FireBird doesn't stop at using PSS in its primary conductor system.

It also uses Direction-Controlled solid Perfect-Surface Silver shield conductors to drain RF noise from the line and neutral shields to ground through the third ground pin.

This means PSS is doing two different jobs within FireBird:

PSS in the current-carrying conductor system helps minimize conductor-related distortion.

PSS in the shield/drain system is used to maximize RF-noise drainage.

72V Dielectric-Bias System

FireBird Source incorporates AudioQuest's 72V Dielectric-Bias System (DBS).

Cable insulation behaves as a dielectric and can act as a shunt filter. AudioQuest continuously biases and polarizes the insulation, which the company says minimizes dielectric noise and linearizes its behavior, significantly improving wide-bandwidth dissipation of induced RF noise.

AudioQuest describes the intended result as clearer, more dynamic reproduction against a quieter background.

Direction-Controlled Conductors

Every internal conductor in FireBird is Direction-Controlled.

Drawn metal has a non-symmetrical grain structure, creating direction-dependent RF impedance. AudioQuest controls conductor orientation so induced noise is directed away from the areas where it could contribute to distortion.

The solid PSS shield conductors are also Direction-Controlled as part of FireBird's overall RF Noise-Dissipation architecture.

C13 and High-Current C19 Options

For U.S. and Canadian systems, FireBird Constant-Current is offered with:

C13 → 3-Prong Wall Plug — for components using a conventional IEC-C13 inlet.

C19 → 3-Prong Wall Plug — for compatible equipment using the larger IEC-C19 connection.

FireBird Source vs. Hurricane Source
