Designed for High/Variable-Current Components

FireBird High Current isn't simply a premium power cable intended to go everywhere in the system. AudioQuest specifically optimizes it for components whose current requirements can change dramatically during operation.

That includes power amplifiers, integrated amplifiers, powered speakers, powered subwoofers, AV receivers, AC power conditioners and regenerators, isolation transformers, and battery-backup power systems.

Solid Perfect-Surface Silver + Perfect-Surface Copper+

This is the defining material upgrade that separates FireBird from Hurricane.

FireBird's primary current-carrying conductors combine AudioQuest's extreme-purity Perfect-Surface Silver (PSS) with its highest-grade copper, Perfect-Surface Copper+ (PSC+). AudioQuest says the sizes and proportions of the two metals are carefully chosen to deliver performance approaching an all-PSS design without the significantly higher cost that would entail.

This means FireBird doesn't simply use silver for shielding or noise drainage—PSS is incorporated directly into the conductors carrying AC power to the component.

Solid Conductors — No Strand Interaction

FireBird uses solid conductors, eliminating the electrical strand-to-strand interaction present in conventional stranded cables.

AudioQuest identifies that interaction as a significant source of distortion. The company also emphasizes conductor surface quality because both the electrical fields within the conductor and magnetic fields surrounding it are affected by the conductor itself.

RF/ND-Tech — Wide-Bandwidth RF Noise Dissipation

Delivering current is only part of FireBird's job.

AC ground wires can behave like antennas and collect radio-frequency noise from Wi-Fi, cellular networks, Bluetooth, computers, switching power supplies, networking equipment, and countless other sources.

AudioQuest's patented RF/ND-Tech combines a common-mode phase-cancelling array with proprietary dielectric materials and differential linear filtering to reduce induced RF noise across a very wide bandwidth.

The objective is straightforward: provide unrestricted current without allowing the power cable to become an efficient pathway for RF contamination.

Solid Perfect-Surface Silver RF Drains

FireBird also uses Direction-Controlled solid Perfect-Surface Silver shield conductors to drain RF noise from the line and neutral shields to ground through the third ground pin.

So PSS performs two important jobs in FireBird:

Primary conductor system: Solid PSS works alongside PSC+ to carry AC power.

Noise-Dissipation system: Solid PSS shield conductors provide a highly conductive path for draining RF noise.

72V Dielectric-Bias System

FireBird High Current incorporates AudioQuest's 72V Dielectric-Bias System (DBS).

Cable insulation behaves as a dielectric and can act like a shunt filter. AudioQuest continuously biases and polarizes that insulation, which the company says minimizes dielectric noise and linearizes the filtering behavior of the dielectric, improving wide-bandwidth dissipation of induced RF noise.

AudioQuest describes the intended result as greater clarity and dynamics against a quieter background.

Direction-Controlled Conductors

All internal FireBird conductors are Direction-Controlled.

Because drawn metal has a non-symmetrical grain structure, its RF impedance varies with direction. AudioQuest controls conductor orientation so induced RF noise is drained away from areas where it could contribute to distortion.

The solid PSS shield conductors are also Direction-Controlled, making conductor orientation an integral part of FireBird's Noise-Dissipation architecture.

20-Amp High-Current Capability

FireBird High Current is rated for:

16A RMS at 220–240VAC / 50–60Hz.

More importantly for high-performance audio, AudioQuest says the cable can withstand transient-current peaks many times greater than its continuous RMS rating.

C13 and High-Current C19 Options

For U.S. and Canadian systems, FireBird High Current is available with:
