Dragon combines solid Perfect-Surface Silver (PSS) and Perfect-Surface Copper+ (PSC+) conductors, 100% PSS RF drains, ZERO-Tech, RF/ND-Tech, 72V Dielectric-Bias System with RF Trap, and AudioQuest’s premium Hanging-Silver AC plugs. With 20-amp current capacity and the ability to withstand transient peaks many times its continuous rating, Dragon High Current is designed for systems where unrestricted power delivery is critical.

Built for High/Variable-Current Components

Dragon High Current is not intended as a generic power cable for every component in the rack. AudioQuest optimizes this version for equipment whose current requirements can change dramatically and instantaneously.

Solid Perfect-Surface Silver + Perfect-Surface Copper+

Dragon High Current uses a carefully engineered combination of solid Perfect-Surface Silver (PSS) and solid Perfect-Surface Copper+ (PSC+) for its primary current-carrying conductors. AudioQuest identifies PSS as its extreme-purity silver and PSC+ as its highest-quality copper.

The conductors are solid rather than conventionally stranded. This eliminates strand-to-strand electrical interaction, which AudioQuest identifies as a major source of dynamic distortion.

The Perfect-Surface process also focuses on conductor surface quality and purity, minimizing distortion associated with grain boundaries while providing an exceptionally clean conductive path.

ZERO-Tech — Uncompressed High-Current Delivery

This is fundamental to Dragon High Current.

AudioQuest points out that low DC resistance alone does not guarantee unrestricted current delivery. A cable’s characteristic impedance also affects its ability to supply instantaneous current.

AudioQuest’s ZERO-Tech combines low DC resistance with zero characteristic impedance, with the goal of preventing the compression of high-current transients that can occur with conventional AC cable geometries.

When a reference amplifier suddenly needs substantial current to reproduce a bass transient, orchestral crescendo, or explosive movie soundtrack, Dragon is engineered to supply that demand without the power cable becoming the bottleneck.

20-Amp High-Current Capability

Dragon High Current has a 20-amp current capacity and is engineered to withstand current-transient peaks many times greater than its continuous RMS rating.

That makes it particularly well suited to large amplifiers and high-current AC products where instantaneous current delivery can matter as much as continuous capacity.

This is why AudioQuest specifically recommends Dragon High Current for demanding power amplifiers, powered subwoofers, powered loudspeakers, receivers, integrated amplifiers, power conditioners, regenerators, isolation transformers, and battery-backup systems.

RF/ND-Tech — Wide-Bandwidth RF Noise Dissipation

Delivering massive current without restriction is only half of Dragon’s job.

The AC environment is increasingly contaminated by radio-frequency energy from Wi-Fi, cellular networks, Bluetooth, switching power supplies, computers, network hardware, and countless other electronic devices.

AudioQuest’s patented RF/ND-Tech uses a common-mode phase-cancelling array together with proprietary dielectric materials and differential linear filtering to reduce induced RF noise across an extremely wide bandwidth.

The objective is straightforward: maximum current delivery without allowing the power cable to become a pathway for unwanted RF energy.

100% Perfect-Surface Silver RF Drains

Dragon uses Direction-Controlled 100% Perfect-Surface Silver RF drains.

These solid PSS conductors drain RF noise from the line and neutral shields to ground through the third ground pin. AudioQuest uses its highest-grade conductor metal specifically where its conductivity can maximize RF-noise dissipation.

So Dragon employs PSS in two important areas:

Power delivery: Solid PSS works alongside solid PSC+ in the primary conductor architecture.

Noise dissipation: Solid 100% PSS RF drains provide the path for removing induced RF noise.

This extensive use of Perfect-Surface Silver is a defining feature of AudioQuest’s flagship power cable.

72V Dielectric-Bias System + RF Trap

Dragon incorporates AudioQuest’s patented 72V Dielectric-Bias System (DBS).

DBS creates a continuous electrostatic field that AudioQuest says optimizes the cable’s insulation at the molecular level. The goal is to improve dielectric efficiency at high frequencies, reducing distortion and allowing greater clarity against a quieter background.

Dragon’s DBS implementation also incorporates an RF Trap, technology developed for AudioQuest’s Niagara Series power products, to further reduce induced radio-frequency noise.

AudioQuest’s Best AC Plugs

At this level, AudioQuest doesn't stop with the conductors.

Dragon uses the company’s premium Hanging-Silver over Red Copper and Beryllium Copper AC plugs, which AudioQuest says provide lower distortion and improved dissipation of high-frequency noise.

This gives Dragon a premium connection at both ends rather than allowing the termination to become the weak link in an otherwise reference-level cable.

Direction-Controlled Conductors

All internal Dragon conductors are Direction-Controlled.

AudioQuest explains that drawn metal has a non-symmetrical grain structure, creating direction-dependent RF impedance. By controlling conductor orientation, induced RF noise can be directed away from the areas where it could contribute to distortion.

Directionality is therefore an integral part of Dragon’s Noise-Dissipation architecture rather than simply an installation convention.

C13 and High-Current C19 Options

For U.S. and Canadian systems, Dragon High Current is available with:

C13 → 3-Prong Wall Plug — for equipment using a conventional IEC-C13 connection.

C19 → 3-Prong Wall Plug — for components using the larger high-current IEC-C19 connection.

For large reference amplifiers and premium power conditioners, the C19 configuration will often be the relevant choice.

Dragon High Current vs. FireBird High Current

This distinction needs to be slightly different from how we described Dragon Source, because AudioQuest’s official specifications show that Dragon High Current still combines PSS and PSC+ in its primary conductor architecture. It is not described as 100% PSS for every current-carrying conductor.

Dragon Source vs. Dragon High Current

Both Dragon cables occupy the top of AudioQuest’s power lineup, but they're designed for different jobs.

Dragon Constant-Current (Source) is optimized for source electronics with relatively stable current demands.

Dragon High (Variable) Current is optimized for amplifiers and power products that can demand enormous amounts of current almost instantaneously. Its 20-amp capacity and ability to withstand substantially larger transient peaks reflect that purpose.

For a true reference system, this creates a logical AudioQuest architecture: Dragon Source for the front end and Dragon High Current for the amplification and high-current power components.
